At least 10% of what we make we give to charity.
Did you know?
In the UK we spend a staggering £31.2 billion on clothes each year – and £12.5 billion end up in the bin, which means about 300,000 tonnes of textiles end up in landfill sites. Many of these clothes are made of synthetic fibres which take hundreds of years to decompose.
You can seriously reduce your carbon footprint by trading second hand. In 2020, Brits saved more than 225,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions by buying second hand clothes and electronic items.
3 reasons to buy second hand
Eco friendly
Getting something that is pre-loved is always a more eco-friendly option than buying new. A cotton t-shirt takes 2,700 litres of water to make, which you save when you buy it second hand.
Building a sustainable economy
We want to create an economy that doesn’t take away from future generations. At the moment, much of what we purchase is used once and thrown away. All of these items take energy and raw materials to make. Each year we use more resources than the earth can regenerate. We need to build a circular economy where things are reused, recycled and repaired - not thrown away.
Save your money
Second hand items usually cost a fraction of what they did new. And often they are in great condition (some aren’t even used!).
